Since 1995 I have been a volunteer La Leche League Leader. I have been co-leading or leading a La Leche League group since then. For 5 years I served as part of the La Leche League of Ireland Professional Liaison team, dealing with unusual breastfeeding issues and more medical questions.
Currently I serve on the Department of Health Northern Ireland Breastfeeding Strategy Implementation Group and have been doing so for the last 7 years.
I have also just been appointed to the Breastfeeding Strategy Review Group.
Over the years I have worked with more than 1500 women providing information and support for their breastfeeding experience. I also breastfed my own three children into toddler hood.
In 2002 I sat the International Lactation Consultant Exam. I achieved the highest mark in Ireland that year. In 2007 I recertified as required as an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant.
